Durch exakt konzipierte Hebelübersetzungen, die die erforderlichen Kräfte definieren, wird dafür gesorgt, dass sich der Pedalweg für den Fahrer in einem akzeptablen Toleranzbereich bewegt. Ist der Kupplungszug für das Auto verschlissen oder gar gerissen, muss er umgehend ausgetauscht werden.

Warum muss der Seilzug für die Kupplungsbetätigung nachgestellt werden?
Wird es immer schwieriger, beim Betätigen des Kupplungspedal den richtigen Schleifpunkt zum Anfahren zu finden, kann dies am Kupplungszug liegen. Während es bei einem sich selbst nachstellenden Kupplungszug genügen kann, das Kupplungspedal mehrmals ganz durchzutreten und zügig wieder nach oben schnellen zu lassen, damit sich der Seilzug für die Kupplungsbetätigung wieder optimal einstellt, muss bei älteren Kupplungsseilen eine mechanische Einstellung erfolgen. Hierzu muss die Motorhaube geöffnet werden und die sich an einer Stange neben dem Getriebe befindliche Mutter angezogen werden. Zuvor muss jedoch eine kleinere sogenannte Kontermutter gelöst und anschließend wieder festgezogen werden. Notwendig werden diese Arbeiten, weil aus der auf die Beläge der Kupplungsscheiben ausgeübte Reibung eine Abnutzung resultiert. Damit verändert sich der Abstand zwischen dem Ausrücker und den Membranfederzungen der Kupplungsdruckplatte. Die Anpresskraft kann sich verringern und die Kupplung "rutscht durch". Im schlimmsten Fall überhitzt die Kupplungsscheibe und die Membranfedern der Druckplatte glühen aus. Um dies zu vermeiden, sollte der Kupplungszug regelmäßig überprüft und gegebenenfalls nachgestellt werden.
Kupplungsseil gerissen was tun?
Tritt man bei Betätigung des Kupplungspedals förmlich in Leere, ist wahrscheinlich der Kupplungszug gerissen. Erfahrene Autofahrer können in dieser Situation auch ohne Kupplung schalten. Eine dauerhafte Lösung ist dies allerdings auf keinen Fall. Es empfiehlt sich, das Fahrzeug in die nächste Reparaturwerkstatt schleppen und den Kupplungszug wechseln zu lassen.
