Was für viele Autofahrer eine Selbstverständlichkeit ist, erfordert ein durchdachtes System. Wer ein Fahrzeug steuert, tritt während der Fahrt unzählige Male auf das Kupplungspedal. Doch was geschieht eigentlich, wenn wir die Kupplung betätigen? In früheren Jahren wurde die auf das Kupplungspedal ausgeübte Kraft über einen Seilzug weitergeleitet. Heute geschieht dies mittels eines hydraulischen Kupplungssystems. Wichtige Teile eines hydraulischen Kupplungssystems sind der Kupplungsgeberzylinder und der Kupplungsnehmerzylinder, die über eine Druckleitung miteinander verbunden sind. Wo sitzt der Nehmerzylinder und wie funktioniert er eigentlich?
Wie der Geberzylinder auch, wird der Kupplungsnehmerzylinder häufig zwischen Getriebe und Motor verbaut. Mit Befestigungsschrauben werden die mit kleinen Anschlüssen für die Hydraulikflüssigkeit versehenen Zylinder an der Spritzwand und am Getriebegehäuse befestigt. Die Zylinder arbeiten im Prinzip wie eine Pumpe. Im Inneren der stiftähnlichen Bauteile befinden sich ein Metallstift und eine Feder. Wird das Kupplungspedal betätigt, baut sich im Geberpedal durch die Hydraulikflüssigkeit Druck auf, der über die Druckleitung an den Kupplungsnehmerzylinder weitergegeben wird. Als Hydraulikflüssigkeit dient in aller Regel Bremsflüssigkeit. Bremsflüssigkeit, die meist auf Polyglykol-Basis aufgebaut ist, verfügt neben einem hohen Siedepunkt über alle erforderlichen Eigenschaften. Das hat den Vorteil, dass nur ein Vorratsbehälter erforderlich ist. Ist der Druck bei dem Nehmerzylinder angekommen, gibt er diesen an den Ausrücker, bzw. das Ausrücklager weiter. Der Ausrücker öffnet die Kupplung, indem er Kupplungsscheibe und Drucklager voneinander trennt. Damit wird der Kraftfluss vom Motor zum Getriebe unterbrochen.

Die Ursachen für eine nicht mehr ordnungsgemäß arbeitende Kupplung können sehr unterschiedlich sein. Es gibt viele Bauteile, die für eine Dysfunktion verantwortlich sein können.
