Kontrollieren Sie den Ölstand und die Ölfarbe regelmäßig. Verfärben sich Motoröle schwarz oder sinkt der Füllstand bei kaltem Motor, steht ein notwendiger Wechsel an. Ohne ausreichend viskoses Motoröl fährt sich der Motor fest und ein kostspieliger Schaden ist vorprogrammiert. Doch auch die Befüllung mit ungeeignetem Motoröl führt zur Beschädigung des Motors. Beim Ölwechsel unterscheidet man zwischen der Nachfüllung und dem vollständigen Wechsel inklusive Ölfilter. Die Intervalle eines Wechsels inklusive Filter sind vom Hersteller vorgegeben und somit bei jeder Kfz-Marke unterschiedlich. Motoröle altern, auch wenn der Behälter bei der Überprüfung keinen Ölverlust aufweist. Das Altöl darf nicht in die Umwelt gelangen, wodurch der Wechsel nur auf speziellen Plätzen und mit einem Auffangbehälter erfolgen sollte. Für einen vollständigen Austausch des Motoröls wird die unten am Öltank befindliche Schraube geöffnet und das Altöl abgelassen. Gleichzeitig entnimmt man den Ölfilter, der vor der Befüllung des Tanks eingebaut und auf seinen festen Sitz geprüft wird. Für Laien empfiehlt sich ein Termin in der Werkstatt.
Auf das richtige Motoröl kommt es an - was bedeuten die Bezeichnungen?
Was bedeuten die Bezeichnungen, beispielsweise beim Motoröl 5W-40? Die erste Zahl gibt die Tiefsttemperatur an, die bei Motoröl 5W-30 bei - 35 Grad Celcius und bei Motoröl 10W-40 bei - 30 Grad Celcius liegt. Der zweite Wert gibt die Viskosität in quadratmillimeter an. Benzinmotoren benötigen Motoröl, das mit dem Vermerk B (Motortyp Benziner) gekennzeichnet ist. Leichtlauföle sind für Diesel und Benziner geeignet und senken den Energieverlust durch eine Verringerung der mechanischen Reibung.
